Golding Homes and Think3e have organised and hosted Maidstone’s first Worklessness Forum.
The Forum brings together organisations and agencies who offer training and employment opportunities for people in the town, including Maidstone Borough Council, Connexions, Royal British Legion Industries, Key Training, Go Train, Kennedy Scott and Kent Probation.
The aim of the forum is for agencies to meet regularly to discuss the issues faced by anyone trying to get into employment. We hope that by working together to share knowledge and information, discuss the barriers people are facing, share best practice and new ideas, we can form working relationships that will help make a difference to peoples employment prospects in Maidstone.
Sarah Stokes, Golding Homes’ Employment Advisor, explained “There are lots of activities going on in Maidstone and the surrounding towns and villages to try and help people access training and jobs, but it can be confusing to know where to start. Through this forum we can coordinate our efforts and share information with each other which is useful to all our customers”.
At the first meeting the Forum discussed existing job clubs, courses and grants, as well as looking forward to job-fair style events in 2012. The Forum was well attended and several ideas raised will be actioned before the next meeting in February 2012.
