Affordable Housing to Replace a Former Hostel

Mount Green Housing Association has started work to turn a former Farnham hostel for the homeless into much needed affordable housing. The project at Marshalls in Weydon Lane is a partnership between Waverley Borough Council and Mount Green Housing Association. Waverley has agreed to fund building work which will provide 15 rented flats for local people on the council’s housing needs register. The builder is Hill Partnership and completion of the new homes is scheduled for spring 2012.

John Swanton, the council’s head of housing, said: “Improved homeless prevention work in Waverley means there isn’t the need for the Marshalls hostel.
“Working in partnership with organisations such as Mount Green Housing Association means Waverley can make the money it has available to invest in affordable housing go even further and provide better quality, modern homes.”

Mount Green chief executive Nick Ronald said: “We are pleased to be working with Waverley again in delivering much needed affordable housing in Farnham.
“Demand for affordable accommodation is rising in the current challenging economic times, with many younger people struggling to get a foot on the housing ladder.
“Partnerships will be key to tackling rising demand and the development at Marshalls is a great example of the benefits of a good working relationship delivering a positive outcome.
“Finally, the input of a third partner, the Homes and Communities Agency, is also welcome. The HCA has provided some of the funding essential to enabling the development to proceed, which is most welcome.”
